Our posts about local radio shows seem to get a good number of views, and here's me thinking that scouring the web for free legit song downloads was the way to go...
So, despite the fact you can just google it and find it out in 2 seconds:
The Rock fm's The Axe Attack: last show for 2010 last Sunday, and will be returning to the airwaves Jan 23rd 2011.
95bfm's Hard fast & heavy show, Planet fm's Hardcore.hard seems not to be taking a break.
Can't tell shit from the kiwi fm kiwi metal bar, the station website doesn't have a page for them and there's just a generic holiday message on their facebook.
Metal ad is apparently returning to the airwaves with a new name, format, style etc in 2011, but to be honest I'm quite disappointed with these guys. When I first saw all the buzz about it on the interwebs and all the hype they pumped out, and all the potential I envisaged for them. But, in the end they only aired a handful of shows before disappearing. They should sort their shit out, and on their return: stick to it, otherwise f...-off.
Hailing out of New Zealand, we're gonna bring you all the heavy metal blog-worthiness that our ears firmly planted to the ground can sniff out- mixed metaphors and all.. Email: nuclear.anxiety@gmail.com

Manowar re-doing Battle Hymns
The title says it all really, but their getting in Count Dooku/Saruman aka Christopher Lee for "Dark Avenger"
The updated album, titled "Battle Hymns 2011" will probably rub fans of old Manowar the wrong way, but stoked will be fans of the newer manowar..
Lee recently released a "metal" concept album about Charlemagne, and has apparently worked with the of odd power metal band at various times, i guess.

Australian Black Metal, tours NZ
I am getting so lazy these days, *screen shot* *crop* *post on internet* haven't even replied my attendance yet..
more news I saw today
Converge, a band who recently visited NZ and tore up the Kings Arms, are starting the writing process this week for a new album.
Dethcore new comers Oceano are due to release their 2nd album, Contagion on Metalblade and if you click here to pre-order it (or any combo of new cd to merch) you go in the draw to win an Ipad- valid only thru the US store so I don't know if that means it's limited to USA residents or not..
Slaughterama, a Zine run by the guys who do "The House of Noizz" has a new issue out now, for details and to download it for free check out: http://www.houseofnoizz.com/slaughterama.php
NOTE: If you pay for it, i.e. for a hard copy- it'll come with a free NZ sampler CD, available via trade me in a few days or something.
The Souless, formerly Ignominious Incarceration, will be entering the studio [one in Britain] in mid-December and working there thru til January2011- due for an April 2011 release

A few bands enter studio, etc
The Haunted are working on a new album- they're in Antfarm studios [Denmark] now [check out their facebook page for pics of their recordings]
Gojira are "... in Los Angeles next week in the studio with Logan Mader, recording an EP to support the action of Sea Shepherd led by Paul Watson. A lot of people are showing their support already. We'll have very special guests singing on these 4 songs." not really album news, but I'll still be checking it out despite stories of the sea sheppard organisation being 'morally bankrupt' and a means to an end kinda group.
In Flames are also due to begin work on a new album, they'll be entering IF studios- in the heart of Gothenburg! [Sweden] if ever there was a place to record an album, smack bang in the middle of the world-renowned Gothenburg would be the place. The band recorded A sense of Purpose at IF, other bands who've recorded there include The Haunted [Versus], and a bunch of others.
Chimaira guitarist Rob Arnold, along with Bleed the Sky's Austin D'Amond are in a new side-project, "The Elite" they have an EP due out "WW3 EP" [available via iTunes, apparently] though it sounds closer to Chimaira than Black Metal as the band name would suggest [as the sayings go- Black Metal & Elitism go togeather like Pantera and Camo-Cargo shorts]

My Halloween
Being in New Zealand, the holiday catered for goths [I use the term loosely, least my goth friends see this] and the overly [if secretly] theatrical alike [and not always mutually exclusive] i.e. Halloween as far as I've experienced it, has never really been enthusiastically 'celebrated' [beyond those with said character anomalies.]
However, this year came a culmination of several events amongst my circle of friends [i mean drinking buddies] in both personal and work respects, which brought us all together with reasons, both positive and negative, to crash the weekend into a ditch and leave it there bleeding.
I went dressed as Admiral No Beard from Swashbuckle [despite looking more like a mix of commodore redrum and bootsman collins] or in other words, a pirate... the usual messy, memory loss inducing night on Saturday followed, leading to a group of us waking up in the car at a beach on the other side of Auckland [turns out our sober driver's girlfriend lives up the road from this beach] a flash cafe cooked breakfast later and we eventually made it back home for ghostbusters on the telly.
It's nothing really to do with metal [other than the fact- it was what we had blasting at all opportunities], but was a particularly awesome weekend that I wished happened more often.

The NZ dates for the "Our Last Enemy Album Launch Tour" have been amended [if they haven't been & it's been correct like this the whole time- I apologize, my sleep deprivation and terrible-ness with numbers was to blame...]
New New Zealand Dates:
Friday 07/01/11 Medusa Bar, Wellington NZ
Saturday 08/01/11 The Kings Arms, Auckland NZ
Any more information than this, check out: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=141310135895474&ref=nf

Hope this swings by NZ
Darkest hour w/ Carnifex tour Oz early 2011, It's no secret that one of the prime reasons for my interest in this tour is that the Carnifex released a cover of Angel of Death, which I find a bit stirring [in my pants, but it's not gay cos it's Slayer]
This looks massive, but unfortunately it's like 1000miles away from me
I don't know half the bands [less than half really] but it still looks huge. I couildn't even imagine something like this happening in NZ- with 23 bands [including NZ ex-pats Akaname] with more to be announced. And for onlu $15AUD [or $28NZ ;p nah, but exchange rates are a bitch]

Local [Auckland] radio update. [updated]
This is gonna probably seem a bit hypocritical, since I don't/can't/forget to listen to the local metal shows, especially these past few weeks- but luckily they have an internet footprint, which is what I'm gonna look for:
The Axe Attack (the Rock): The giant, the tower of power of all things metal and radio in NZ hosts 6hours of Sabbath on the next show this Sunday (Oct 31st), from 6pm- I'm gonna attempt to organise a BBQ, have a few cold beers and invite my stoner brother- make the night complete ;p [hell, I'm not being biased just because the gracious, most brutally awesome Axe Man has included a link to this very blog in his own regular email update, as previously reported ;p]
The Hard Fast Heavy show (95bfm): These guy(s) must have a deal with the promoters of the Megadeth headlined No Sleep Til Auckland tour, 'cos host, Dale, is interviewing damn near all the bands on the lineup. So far facebook/ their blog [it's now http://www.hardfastheavy.com/] tells me they've interviewed [someone from] Parkway Drive, Katatonia, August Burns Red, Suicide Silence, GWAR and 3 Inches of Blood.
Hardcore.Hard (planet fm): Is it's own beast, completely different to the short-lived Metal AD. Hosts Dug and db recently had the lads from Antagonist AD in the radio booth with them, and on this Thursday's show, they're having someone by the name of Cash- vocalist for now split Evil Priest [I did catch these guys play once or twice back in the day]
The Kiwi Metal Bar (Kiwi FM): all these guys seem to be doing at the moment is promoting the Tainted tour in November, well their facebook page is at least [and the only mention on the kiwi FM website is of said tour]. Not a bad tour to have your name on, I wonder if I could get this blogs name on a tour like that, or will my insatiable desire for anonymity be my downfall?!?!...
The House of Noizz (Planet fm): These guys seem to be humming along nicely- their fb group is quite active and their youtube vids are quite good to watch as well.. I wonder- it would probably be these lads to buy [had they the money] life size versions of the original Manowar album art. It would look good in the back ground to their youtube vids [I haven't seen all of their clips so can't say if they've already done so]

Want giant manowar album cover art?
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=148203
Apparently Manowar think it's fans are gonna be cool to play upwards of $375US for large HD prints [i.e. reproductions] of the original full scale art.
Granted, if I were married [so that having giant art on my walls depicting topless muscled dudes wasn't TOTALLY homoerotic] and real rich, I'd love to order a piece or two. But until I win Lotto and can afford a trophy wife- My Manowar are gonna have to remain unpurchased..

What an odd line up
Ahead of the release of a new studio album, Cradle of Filth have announce they are touring [somewhere in the world that's not NZ] with Nachtmystium, someone/thing called Daniel Lioneye and strangely Turisas...
Sounds about as right a tour lineup as Dimmu Borgir supporting Korn [which actually happened] i.e. it's not entirely too far-fetched to believe, it's just a bit odd...

The Ocean, robbed, spain, how are they carrying so much cash
The Ocean, an experimental German 'collective' who have [or will] put out 2 albums this year (Heliocentric and Anthropocentric) were robbed on a highway near Madrid, as they tour with The Dillinger Escape Plan. Used to the invasions of customs officials etc the thieves had fake badges and stuff, but suprisingly managed to get away with over 6000 Euros, which is about $11,111NZ as of 26Oct.
Read more about it, here: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=155007651207281
And if you're a fan of the band and wanna help out, on their store (?) you can donate 5 Euro where you ...will receive a copy of the police report and a Thank You card signed by all band members.

free mp3s, i think
Go to http://www.theworldsloudest.com/ and follow the instructions, and I guesss you get to download the sampler listed below- I'm not on a computer where I can download it just yet, but if it works I will...

City of fire comments on Oz tour, nothing about leaving Nz out of it
I saw this posted on a metal news site, and I noticed a distinct lack of Kiwi flavour to their comments.
They were due to play a few shows in NZ, I was looking forward to their show at the Kings Arms in early september, while I haven't managed to get their album, I've youtubed a few songs and rather enjoy them, sometimes.
Their cancellation came quite quietly too, I remember hearing it from a mate who found out through his work, or workmates..
City of Fire has issued the following recap of the band's recent Australian tour dates:
"CoF would like to thank Soulfly, Incite and all of the tour crew for making their first Australian tour this September as successful and enjoyable as it was. And, of course, much love to the beautiful people of Australia that came out to support the shows.
"The band had such a great time with you all that they're already planning a trip back for April/May of next year. Lock up your daughters. Also, thanks to Mr. Jed Simon for joining us on guitar for this tour. Our ears are still ringing."

High tech A&R
Roadrunner records have launched their http://signmeto.roadrunnerrecords.com/ website, a band networking *slash* popularity contest. I guess the idea is to get regular punters and people in bands to make profiles and anyone else registered to the site can vote or like or something their favourite local bands.
It's yet to be proven what the outcome to all this will be, whether opening the doors to everyone to their website remind users that RR are a record company wishing to sell you music [I'm a lot more independent with my cd purchases: no amount of advertising will sway my wallet, infact it will often stop me from buying an album, or atleast stay well clear of any band that has a traditional advertising budget of any kind]
I might check it out for a laugh, and hope bands with the most friends don't win- if they, in actual fact, suck.

New Ziltoid artwork/comic
Ziltoid is coming to life via rockband and comic strips. News [as far as I can ascertain] is sketchy but Devin Townsend is apparently currently working on some Ziltoid material for the game [is it? I see plenty of news reports about it, but I don't own a games console of any modern description so I assume it's that extension of guitar hero...] The Ziltoid material, obviously, includes dialogue- which if a recent tweet from devin is anything to go by, you'll be in for a disparaging remarks until you've proven yourself, indeed.
No idea about the comic, but honestly I'd be happier if it were artwork for a new Ziltoid record..
In other Devin related news, I gather work on his upcoming album "Ghost" is winding up. Some art work's been done and recordings finished [I think] so expect news of a release date soon [if not already]
